What are Dermal Fillers?
As your skin ages, it gradually looses collagen and elastin, as well as hyaluronic acid and fat, which is why your skin begins to sag and crease.
Collagen and eastin help the skin to stretch, while hyaluronic acid and fat moisturise and “fill out” facial areas.
When injected under the skin, a dermal filler augments the body’s facial framework to replace areas of facial fat pads and restore facial fullness. It also works to stimulate the body’s own collagen production, thus gradually diminishing unwanted lines and wrinkles.
A dermal filler is a non- animal based clear gel that is almost identical to hylauronic acid. Supreme Skin Solutions uses four forms of Dermal Filler which vary depending on the size of the particle, the active ingredients & the quantity in each vial.
Which one you choose depends on your skin, what you’re looking to achieve and your budget – this will be discussed with you during your Skin Consultation with Anna.
Why do I need a dermal filler?
The most common reasons for using a dermal filler include:
- Lip Augmentation, sculpture, definition and volume
- Removal of facial wrinkles, folds and lines.
- Smoothing and softening of scars
- Replacing volume in the cheeks, under the eyes, along the jaw and at the temples to give a more youthful softness to the face.
- Filling and softening the deep folds between your nose and mouth.
Are Dermal Fillers Safe?
Yes, dermal fillers result in healthy, natural looking skin. Over time, the gel is broken down by the body’s normal biological processes and removed from the body. It integrates with the skin’s tissue.
Do I need a Dermal Filler?
That’s a personal choice, but chances are, if you’re reading this you’re looking for an aesthetic solution. Please keep in mind that some fillers have an instant effect, whereas some can take 3-7 days to see the full effect.
What’s more, there’s no set time a filler will last before it gets absorbed into the body. As everyone’s age, lifestyle factors, and skin type are different, the benefit period will vary. Additional touch-up treatments are available at any time after your initial treatment, however, most clients find that they need a touch up between 6-9 months.
What’s the procedure?
Before your procedure you should book in for a complementary skin analysis with Anna. At this appointment, you’ll discuss your expectations, side effects, complications, pain control and aftercare. Plus, as its a medical procedure, we’ll need to take a full medical history including a consent form.
On the day of the appointment, the dermal filler will be injected into your skin with a very fine needle. As the Dermal Filler range includes lidocaine (a topical anesthetic), most clients experience very little discomfort.
Treatments take between 20-30 minutes (depending on the number of areas being treated)
As with all procedures some people will experience side effects for a day or two following the procedure. These can include transient redness, swelling, pain, itching or tenderness at the injection site. One in 15000 people have been known to experience hypersensitivity following hyaluronic fillers.
When NOT to consider a dermal filler…
- In any areas where there is infection or swelling
- If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding (it has not been tested and therefore is not advised)
- If you have a history of cold sores – please take a course of anti-herpes medication before commencing treatment.
